February 20, 2012

Lori Elizabeth Garmer of Palm Beach, FL, was arrested Monday on charges of fleeing the scene of an accident with injuries, child neglect and driving with a suspended license. She was granted $6,000 bail bond, but remains at the Palm Beach County jail in lieu of paying the bond. It is not yet known whether she retains a private criminal defense attorney. Garner, 43, was arrested in connection to a Monday car accident where she allegedly hit Thomas Williams Jr., 63, then fled the scene of the accident. It is not currently
clear what happened at the 2:46 p.m. accident scene near the 5100 block of Melaleuca Road; who struck who and other circumstances of the collision have yet to be released.

However, police report getting calls from witnesses of the accident first reporting the accident, then telling police that one of the drivers was fleeing the scene of the accident.

The officer who responded to the call found Thomas E. Willaims Jr., one of the drivers, at the scene. He said he was experiencing back and neck pain, and paramedics at the scene cared for him upon arrival. It is not clear whether he ended up going to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the responding officer was able to find Garmer with the help of descriptions from witnesses. Reports do not specify where the officer caught up with Garmer, but it is believed to have been near the scene of the accident. Garmer explained to the officer that she had a revoked license and was not supposed to be driving, but had done so in order to pick her 9-year-old son from school. The boy had been in the car at the time of the accident and the officer stated in the affidavit that the boy showed injuries on the right side of his neck from the crash.

As of now it is not clear if Garmer herself was hurt in the crash. Garmer has a past police record in Greenacres for charges including violating probation and DUI. Garmer has worked as a bartender and waitress in Florida since 2004, and she and her husband John Garmer are church administrators at More 2 Life Ministries. John Garner will likely care for the couple's son while Lori Garmer is incarcerated.

Unfortunately, this was not the only accident in Palm Beach recently. Yesterday an 80-something year old couple drove their Chrysler Sebring into the path of a 19-year-old's Honda Accord at the corner of West Atlantic Avenue and El Clair Ranch Rd. The elderly woman died at the scene of the car accident. Her 87-year-old husband, who was driving at the time of the accident, was transported to Del Ray Medical Center with serious injuries.

The 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle got out unscathed. No names have been released as authorities continue to investigate. The accident caused major roadblocks extending past 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with authorities shutting down El Clair Ranch Road in both directions.
